Statement of Philip Hamlin for Faith-based Redress hearing (non-verbal witness)
Mr Hamlin is Chair of the Catholic Church’s National Safeguarding and Professional Standards Committee (NSPSC), which was previously the National Professional Standards Committee (NPSC). He has served on these committees since 2004. Before then, he was a member of the Auckland Diocesan Protocol Committee.
Mr Hamlin is a barrister with 38 years’ experience and was previously a partner at Meredith Connell, the Crown Solicitor’s Office in Auckland. In his legal career, he has worked with both victims and complainants of sexual violence as well as with alleged and proven perpetrators of sexual violence.
Mr Hamlin’s evidence sets out the work of the NSPSC and how the National Office for Professional Standards (NOPS) has developed since it was established in 2004.
