Pānui – 21 June 2024
Tēnā Koutou
To all survivors, whānau members, communities, hapū, iwi, advocates and those who have followed the Royal Commission.
In a big milestone, next week we deliver our final report including final recommendations to the Governor-General.
This comes after six years of work by the Royal Commission and decades of fight by survivors and their supporters.
We thank you for all you have shared, through the pain and trauma, so survivors’ voices can no longer be ignored.
You told us the darkness must become light.
Here are key dates:
- By Wednesday 26 June, Commissioners deliver their final report including their final recommendations to the Governor-General. The report is not public at this point.
- After that, the Governor-General gives it to the Minister of Internal Affairs
- By law, the Government is responsible for making the report public by presenting it to Parliament.
- The Minister of Internal Affairs intends to table the report in Parliament during the following sitting week, which begins July 22, and will confirm the date and time early next week.
- This will allow sufficient time for people to plan their travel to Wellington to attend the tabling if they wish.
- Next week, the Royal Commission comes to an end once the final report is handed over to the Governor-General. Survivors who want to share their experience can contact the Survivor Experience Service.
- This milestone may be a difficult time, so we have put a list of helplines below. We encourage you to seek support if you need it.
