Scope of Investigation into Abuse in the care of Protestant and other faiths
The inquiry has been investigating the abuse of children, young persons and vulnerable adults in the care of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand, and its subsidiaries and affiliated entities and institutions. The inquiry has also been gathering information about the abuse of children, young persons and vulnerable adults in the care of Protestant and other faiths.
As at 11 April 2022 the Anglican Church investigation scope is formally expanded to also include the abuse of children, young persons and vulnerable adults in the care of: the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand; the Methodist Church of New Zealand; the Salvation Army New Zealand, and subsidiaries and affiliated entities and institutions of these organisations (together the Protestant faiths). The inquiry will also receive evidence including from survivors of abuse in other faiths, including the Gloriavale Christian Community; Exclusive Brethren (more recently known as Plymouth Brethren Christian Church); and the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses Australasia (in New Zealand).
