The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry has released details of its first public hearing in Auckland at the end of October.
Commissioners will hear from survivors and their advocates, academics and experts during the two-week hearing covering a range of issues and topics. It will be the first time the Royal Commission has heard from survivors and experts in a public hearing and will set the scene for the rest of the Inquiry.
You can find out more about the Contextual hearing and a provisional list of witnesses appearing at the hearing in this document.
A hearing plan with the confirmed witnesses and the dates and times they will give evidence will be released on 21 October. A short summary of the topics to be covered by each witness will be released before that.
